The Resource Eco Forum Wrap-up

Thank you to all of our sponsors who made this an incredible event! A special thanks to Ember, who provided the delicious appetizers. We had a great time!

Thank you to Jon Kinstad at HC3 for presenting a current topic of discussion in Summit County,‘Rating High Performance Homes in the High Country”. Another special thank you goes to homeowner and architect Matt Stais for hosting the event and serving the first meal at his new green built home! Matt’s informative and colorful displays regarding the sustainable measures incorporated into the home were helpful to all in understanding the unique design and energy efficiencies that have been incorporated during design and construction.

In addition, we’d like to thank Brian Carlson, Carlson Builders and his crew for presenting about the construction of the home and keeping such a clean construction site for us to safely enjoy.

The evening was packed with a lot of great information, and the group could have spent hours going through what makes a “High Performance Home”. If you are interested in becoming certified to rate a homes energy performance contact CMC Green Building Academy for great information.

What makes a home a High Performance Home, and how do you make your home more efficient? HC3 can help! The home energy rating system (HERS) is comparable to the miles-per-gallon rating in your car. Most people would never purchase a car without understanding its energy efficiency, and HC3 can help you determine the energy efficiency of your home. The way in which to get a rating of your homes performance is to have a “certified third party consultant” perform an Energy Audit. You should do an Energy Audit if:

Your preparing to remodel or add-on to your home.

You have excessively high utility bills.

Your home has noticeable cold or hot spots.

You are interested in adding renewable energy features to your home.

Your home experiences frozen pipes.

Ice dams build up on the roof of your home.

You would like to make your home more efficient and reduce your impact on the planet.

Your home has indoor air quality issues such as condensation on the windows, mold or other respiratory toxins.

Matthew Stais Architects strongly believes that designing and building green should be designed for the real world. More than theories and research our interest lies in figuring out what technologies best fit a project and then integrating those ideas seamlessly into every aspect of the design. This is why the Stais Home chooses to have an energy audit on their brand new home. For more information please contact Matt Stais.
